Petsmart
Adoption Day- The
Animal Orphanage holds a weekly
pet adoption days at PetSmart,
Rt 73 in Berlin, NJ every
Saturday and Sunday from 12-3pm.
Volunteers are needed to pick up
adoptable dogs and cats from the
shelter and present them to the
public for adoption. Volunteers
are also needed to showcase
adoptable dogs and cats at other
off-side adoption days. So many
of our orphans have been
adopted through our off-site
adoption day's. Time
Commitment: Minimum of
two hours per week Age
Requirement: 18 years and up

Cat
Cuddler- Volunteer
cat cuddlers are responsible for
improving the quality of life of
the adoptable cats at the
Voorhees Animal Orphanage. They
can cuddle, play with, and give
attention and affection to cats
during their stay at the
shelter. Cat cuddlers are
responsible for removing the cat
from its cage, safe handling of
the cat, and putting the cat
back in its cage. Experience
needed for this position
includes participation in a
Volunteer Orientation and Safe
Animal Handling Training. Time
Commitment: Minimum of 2
hours per week Age
Requirement: 16 and
up

Dog
Walker- Volunteer dog
walkers will be responsible for
taking adoptable dogs for walks
on the Animal Orphanage grounds.
These walks serve to exercise,
socialize, and keep dogs in good
mental health during their stay
at the shelter. Walkers will be
trained in acceptable methods of
basic command training (sit,
stay, down). Walkers are
responsible for leashing the
dog, removing the dog from its
kennel, maintaining control over
the dog for the entire walk, and
putting the dog back in its
kennel. Experience needed
includes participation in a
Volunteer Orientation and Animal
Handling Training. Time
Commitment: Minimum two
hours per week Age
Requirement: 16 and up

Foster
Care- These dedicated
volunteers will provide care for
undetermined periods of time for
animals that will need to be
brought up to an adoptable
status. This may include
providing care to unweaned
animals (and in some cases
their mothers), as well as dogs
and cats with special needs (ex.
sick or injured animals)
Caregivers must meet with the
Animal Care Manager for an
interview and may be subject to
a home inspection by an
Animal Control Officer.
Volunteers are responsible for
any events related to the animal
that occur while the animal is
in their care. Experience for
this position includes
participating in a
Volunteer Orientation and
counseling by the Animal Care
Manager. Time Commitment:
Dependent of condition of the
animal Age Requirement:
21 and up

Transporting
Animals to Vets- These
volunteers are responsible for
transporting adoptable dogs and
cats to veterinarians for
spaying and neutering or other
medical attention. These animals
will already be crated or
leashed prior to pick up. The
volunteer is responsible for the
safety of all animals while in
their possession. The volunteer
will agree to transport the
animals in their own vehicle and
will be responsible for all
travel costs that will be
incurred. Time Commitment:
Minimum of one hour per week Age
Requirement: 21 and up

Fundraising
Volunteers- These
volunteers will participate in
various special events that The
Voorhees Animal Orphanage is
involved in, such as Woofstock
and fundraising events. These
events are unique ways that
the shelter can educate
the public about animal welfare
and promote its adoptable
animals. The Auxillary
Fundraising Volunteers will
perform a variety of tasks,
including, but not limited to:
customer service, animal
handling , raising funds for the
shelter, and setting up and
running booths at special
events. Experience for this
position includes a Volunteer
Orientation, Animal Handling
Training and Adoption
Training. Time Commitment:
Varies, depending on the event Age
Requirements: 16 and up

Web
Photographer- Web
photographers are responsible
for taking digital photos of
adoptable dogs and cats that are
currently living at the shelter.
The website is a good resource
for the shelter to promote its
adoptable pets. These
individuals will also be
responsible for updating photos
and descriptions of the animals.
Patience is a must for this
volunteer position as it can be
challenging to get a suitable
photo of the animal. Web
photographers are responsible
for removing the animal from its
kennel, maintaining control over
the animal, and putting the
animal back in its kennel after
the photo session.
Experience necessary for
this position includes prior
experience in digital
photography, website design, and
updating, participation in a
Volunteer Orientation and Animal
Handling Training. Note:
These volunteers must work in a
team of two. Time
Commitment: Two hours
per week minimum Age
Requirement: 16 and up

Projects
If
you are under 16 and need to provide
a few hours of service as part of a
club, class or church, the Voorhees
Animal Orphanage has many ways that
you can contribute to our mission.
You may choose from the suggestions
below or come up with an idea of you
own! Please remember that we
typically cannot accommodate
requests to work directly with the
animals for short projects because
the amount of time needed for
training is prohibitive.
Suggestions:

Organize
a supply drive: Grab the
shelter's Wish List at the front
desk!

Organize
a blanket drive: Cats need
knitted blankets, dogs need warm
blankets at all times!

Hold
a change drive:
"Change the life of a
homeless animal" collect
change at school, from family
and friends. Donate it to the
shelter to help
"change" the life of
one our our homeless pets.
