Hilda (Now Lola)

Well, it finally happened! I became a mommy yesterday to a 2-year old brindle pit bull named Lola (previously Hilda, short for Broomhilda)!!! We rescued her from a shelter in Voorhees, NJ and she's been great so far. We picked her because although she was the shelter's favorite for her great behavior, she wasn't the cutest dog there, so she kept getting passed up. However, we fell in love with her immediately and we could tell she'd be a good fit here in Philly. I took her home in my car and she was very chill, even laying down to sleep for a bit. So far, so great!

Marilyn (now Missey)

Hya Everyone at the A.O.;

Its been 3 months since we got Missey (Marilyn). We love her so much and it didn't take her long to get settled in. She has a little attitude but she is full of energy and only sleeps about 10 hrs a day and is up all night playing. We are used to cats that sleep most of the time. We never know what she is going to do next. She is like having a child in the house. She gets into things. If she doesn't get her way she knocks things of the shelves. Yes she is spoiled. She also has an 17yo brother named Buddy who is really too old to play and she wants to play with him so bad. She pounces him and swipes his tail but he don't like it. She eats like a bottomless pit ,so we had to regulate her food. Her favorite toy is an EEK mouse that we got for our cats about 4 years ago and they never touched it. She found it and it is her favorite. She also likes to sleep on my recliner (see Pic) She is very playful and affectionate. She loves to be held. She fits in this house perfectly. We can't remember what it was like without her.

Scotty

Hi AO Staff and Volunteers,

 Scotty has settled in very nicely in his new digs. He seems to have "imprinted"  on John; he doesn't let him out of his sight. He sleeps next to John's side of  the bed and gives him the cold-nose wake-up when he needs to go out. He was a bit nervous his first day home, but has since  become very comfortable. He very reliably asks to go out when he needs to.

He is incredibly intelligent. Listen to this: John's car is a manual  transmission Corolla. As John and Scott left The Animal Orphanage, Scott was standing in the back seat looking over John's left shoulder (back seat driving probably). Of course, when John shifted gears, Scotty would stumble around and bang into the back of John's seat. After a few miles, John started saying, "Shifting," right before he shifted gears. Scotty very quickly caught on and, by the time they got past the Rt. 73/30 interchange, Scottso knew to brace himself when John said, "Shifting."

Interestingly, Scotty didn't want the windows down. It was about 77 degrees when John picked him up and, after the car cooled off with the A/C, he opened the driver's side front window. Scotty moved to the other side of the car. John tried it again with the passenger side front window (figuring Scotty'd put  his nose in the wind stream like so many dogs do (of course, we know not to open his window so far that he can put his head outside)) and he still backed away. It looks like it's gonna be A/C for Scotty!

 We've attached a couple of pictures of Scottso in his new environs (and a couple of the environs too!). When he's a bit less camera shy, we'll send some photos of him playing with us. He's got a kid's paradise backyard to romp in with a nice big fence around it. It'll be interesting to see how he reacts when we go in the pool next summer!

Thanks so much for rescuing him. He will undoubtedly have a long and happy life  here with us. He says to say hello!

Bia

Just wanted to say how wonderful our dog Bia is! We've had her for over 9 years now and love her every minute! When we first got her, she was the skinniest thing, but thanks to many years of being spoiled (mostly by my mom), she's a fat little cutie! She's also been such a trooper through her years here. She had to have $2000 surgery on her knees because she tore cartilage in her legs to where she could hardly walk. But all is well with her now. She runs around like a young dog and is always ready to lie down for belly rubs! Our vets call her the miracle dog and believe me she is! We wouldn't trade her for the world! Thank you for giving her to us! She has brought so much joy into our lives!

Nicky and Calla

Hello!

I adopted Nicky in July 1999 and Calla in December 2004.  Both from the AO.  Nicky is about 8 now and Calla  a little over a year. Both are very special, wonderful pets.  They get along great and even cuddle when it’s chilly out. Just thought the shelter may like an update – I have attached a picture!  (a little cat nip “playing” and then cuddling)

Sincerely, Jennifer
