Hi AO Staff and
Volunteers,
Scotty
has settled in very nicely in his
new digs. He seems to have
"imprinted" on John;
he doesn't let him out of his sight.
He sleeps next to John's side of
the bed and gives him the cold-nose
wake-up when he needs to go out. He
was a bit nervous his first day
home, but has since become
very comfortable. He very reliably
asks to go out when he needs to.
He is
incredibly intelligent. Listen to
this: John's car is a manual
transmission Corolla. As John and
Scott left The Animal Orphanage,
Scott was standing in the back seat
looking over John's left shoulder
(back seat driving probably). Of
course, when John shifted gears,
Scotty would stumble around and bang
into the back of John's seat. After
a few miles, John started saying,
"Shifting," right before
he shifted gears. Scotty very
quickly caught on and, by the time
they got past the Rt. 73/30
interchange, Scottso knew to brace
himself when John said,
"Shifting."
Interestingly,
Scotty didn't want the windows down.
It was about 77 degrees when John
picked him up and, after the car
cooled off with the A/C, he opened
the driver's side front window.
Scotty moved to the other side of
the car. John tried it again with
the passenger side front window
(figuring Scotty'd put his
nose in the wind stream like so many
dogs do (of course, we know not to
open his window so far that he can
put his head outside)) and he still
backed away. It looks like it's
gonna be A/C for Scotty!
We've
attached a couple of pictures of
Scottso in his new environs (and a
couple of the environs too!). When
he's a bit less camera shy, we'll
send some photos of him playing with
us. He's got a kid's paradise
backyard to romp in with a nice big
fence around it. It'll be
interesting to see how he reacts
when we go in the pool next summer!
Thanks so much
for rescuing him. He will
undoubtedly have a long and happy
life here with us. He says to
say hello!
